CITIZENSHIP CAN BE FUN! - DAY OF CULTURAL VALUES

We invite you for a day of journalism in the historical old town of our host city Székesfehérvár!
Each group receives two main topics:

I. A historical topic to research:
Székesfehérvár has a rich historical heritage, and it’s signs are still visible in the inner city. However, today only a few people know the real stories behind the buildings, statues, memorial sites. We selected stories those carry messages about citizenship and culture. However, it is up to you, to put the story together!

II. An intercultural-ecological topic to look into
When it comes to European citizenship, a central question is: how can we, citizens enrich each other’s culture? (instead of destroying each other..) There are many values that each of our cultures carry. We give you one broader topic to look into and examine: what the countries in your group has to offer to each other in terms of culture and ecological thinking?

Your group has the following tasks to complete:

1.       Find the listed locations in the inner city and answer the questions.

2.       Research your topics, collect and shoot your material

3.       Create one blog post for each topic (one for the historical, one for the intercultural)
Each blog post must contain the following:
-          An article about your findings (max 500 characters with spaces)
-          A short movie linked in from youtube (min 1, max 2 minutes long)
-          A photo album of 5 pictures
-          One interview with a local person (max 400 characters with spaces)
-          The post has to be uploaded to … before 15:00, 22nd of July, 2013
-          Link the post into the facebook group of the exchange

4.       Create a maximum 4 minute verbal presentation about your findings in both topics
-          All members of your group has to speak once in the presentation
-          Projector, powerpoint or prezi use is not allowed

5.       Spread out the Sport Day flyers to young people you meet on your way! Do it in a way that they will feel like coming!
6.       Make sure you come for lunch at 13:00. You create your own time schedule, but we recommend that you start working on the blog posts latest after lunch.
7.       Make sure you are back in the Big Room at 15:20! At 15:30 we show each other the verbal presentations and Gabi will evaluate your work!
8.       Have fun and enjoy! You create your own experience! ;)

13. Turkish bath, cannon – not far away a well. How long and what kind of foreign dominations were in your history? What benefits did they add to your culture?

zs. Do you have many parks or green areas in your hometown? What kind of plants decorate your hometown?

q.) Do you have jester or clown in your folk culture, who always tell the truth even in front of the powerful people?

18. Andrew II of Hungary was crowned in Székesfehérvár. He issued the Golden Bull of 1222 about good governance.  Since when and how much can women inherit in your country? 

r.) His undying work was not made by sword, but he wrote, painted and sang it as a prisoner in the  Fortress of the Seven Towers in Istanbul. Take a group picture with him and post it in the facebook group!


Historical topic:

King II. András (Andrew II.) was crowned in Székesfehérvár. In 1222 he issued the Golden Bull.
-          Where is his coronation site? What is there today? Post a photo of your group at this site to the facebook group of the exchange.
-          Why did Andrew II issue the Golden Bull?
-          What does “jus resistendi” stand for?
-          How would you connect the Golden Bull with active citizenship or good governance?
Intercultural topic: agriculture, gastronomy and drinking culture

Historical topic: George Varkocs castle warden.
-          Which part of the castle used to be where the statue is standing in the time of Varkocs? Post a photo of your group at this site to the facebook group of the exchange.
-          How did he die?
-          What was his relationship with the citizens of Székesfehérvár?
Intercultural topic: architecture, culture of conscious energy use, ecological solutions in buildings

Historical topic: Ferenc Wathay castle warden
-          How is he connected to Székesfehérvár?
-          What did he benefit from the years of Turkish captivity?
-          In which phase of his life did he create undying cultural values?
-          Post a photo of your group with his statue to the facebook group of the exchange.

Intercultural topic: high culture – music, literature, theater, film, fine arts

Historical topic: Turkish occupation
-          For how long was the city under Turkish occupation?
-          What are the two existing remains of Turkish cultural heritage in the inner city? Post a photo of your group at this site to the facebook group of the exchange.
-          What is the story of the cannon in the wall?
Intercultural topic: culture of relationships, love, family, raising children

Historical topic: Memorial to King Matthias
-          How does he live in the memory of Hungarians? What is his nickname?
-          What cultural movement did he represent and where did he adopt it from?
-          How is he connected to Székesfehérvár?
-          Post a photo of your group at his memorial site to the facebook group of the exchange.
Intercultural topic: work and consumption culture, free time and playing culture
